On Red Nose Day a group of ten children went to visit Longcliffe nursing home to celebrate with the residents. After a swirling whirling very windy walk up the hill, the carers offered us a drink. We all took it in turns to introduce ourselves to the elderly, and then the residents introduced themselves to us. Some of us wanted to share our age too, even the residents took it upon themselves to share their age.

We then moved onto activity time. We all helped to set up the tables with mini paper plates, glue, scissors and lots of red materials for decorating our red nose. There were mixed tables of residents and children and they began to create, using a variety of applications from cutting to sticking. One of the 99 year old residents really enjoyed taking part in the activity with the children, helping the children to use the scissors carefully. The children decided they would like to leave the red noses as gifts for the residents,

We had a drink and a biscuit for snack and turned our attention to the next activity created by the carers. There were farm animals placed in rice, each resident was given an animal picture then the children had to dig for an animal and give it to the resident with that picture.

We all sang “Old MacDonald had a farm...”, it was time to say goodbye and set off. The residents and carers thanked us for coming and asked if we could please come again soon.

Lots of fun was had by all celebrating Red Nose Day.
